Sutton Bonington Old Leagues From 2013

For those interested in a bit of nostalgia the old league system is no longer available on line but for history see the pdf file.

Some current names still there but many changes. We lost some records when we briefly went to 2 other league management sites before finishing u with squash levels. Unfortunately they are lost

Mike Morley

Congratulations to Mike Morley who only recently reached the age of 90. He has been an ardent supporter of the Sutton Bonington League System for some years. He is still active. He was over the moon with his recent new racket which he managed to win what he thought was a league game. He was exasperated that he could not enter the result. Unfortunately, we will not name his opponent, but he was in the next league up and Mike had not the right page on the site.
But Mike Morley you are amazing. The nearest aged player to Mike is 6 years younger. And we wont mention who that is.
He said ” will this racket last me another 10 years”. What an achievement that would be if he manages it.

Sad death of 2 ex Kegworth Squash Players

It does seem a while ago, but quite a few current Squash Club Memmbers originate from Kegworth Squash Club –
It might be appropriate to remember 2 of the original members there at its the opening in 1977 – Junction 24 I think it started off as.
Unfortunately both passed away recently in the same week

Alan Bond – who was a mere 71/2 was quite a shock. Alan was a fine squash player who devoted his later sporting activities to yachting and cycling.
Sympathy to his wife Ann and family- I understand his funeral is at Loughborough crematorium at 1130 on the 17th September followed by a service at Kegworth Church at 1230

Dave Allen was 84/5 and also a fine squash player. He married Pam and I understand he went downhill after her death. Sympathy to his family.

Both were fine Kegworth Lads –

England Squash Masters – British Open 2023

3 former Kegworth Squash club players were in the news – culminating in the finals on Sunday 11 June 2023 at the Colets Club in Thames Ditton. Peter Marshall, whose father built the Kegworth Squash again excelled to win the Mens Over 40’s Event – comfortably – despite now being over 50 – Amazing

Simon Spencer another great player from the Kegworth club was seeded 3/4 but unfortunately lost in the quarter finals in the MO55

Webmaster Adrian Wright – did not play in the event due to recent health problems but was given a lifetime achievement award.

The full results and reports are on the EnglandSquashMasters.co.uk website

The chairman’s announcement of the lifetime achievment award

Lifetime Achievement Award – Adrian Wright
For the first time in its 20-year history ESM made a special award.
Adrian Wright of Yorkshire was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his superb playing career which he retired from recently. Adrian has been a top Masters player and the most successful male player we have had.
He has won 4 World Masters titles, 6 British Opens, 10 National Championships and a record 37 Regional Opens. Known as ‘the Silver Fox’ he has been a great supporter of England Squash Masters both on and off the court and started the early ESM website. He had a great eye for the ball and hit with great pace from sometimes hopeless positions. A fierce but fair competitor he often won against the odds with a flurry of winning shots.
We wish him a happy retirement from Squash and hope to see him visit us at events when he can.

Stuart Hardy
Chairman
